Is Obama Cutting Back on One Federal Department?
And returning us to the reduced investment folly of the Clinton era?
Dov Zakheim:
The danger is that Mr. Obama may be signaling a return to the defense mistakes of the 1990s. Bill Clinton slashed defense spending to 3% of GDP in 2000, from 4.8% in 1992. We learned on 9/11 that 3% isn't nearly enough to maintain our commitments and fight a war on terror --
Dov Zakheim:
The Obama defense budget is neither the disastrous downturn that most analysts predicted, nor the boost the administration claims. What it is, though, is plenty worrisome. The president is fond of saying that we need to make long-term "investments" in worthy national goals. Well, his defense budget is no such investment in our national defense.
While the administration is certainly funding short-term military needs, it appears willing to sacrifice long-term U.S. military superiority.

Obama is just showing the same contempt for the military that the Clintons have.
They don't think we need a military because we are the bad guys. The military they want would be used only against Americans.
No problem, there's an Army in Mexico that is glad to fight for the highest bidder and all the pot they can smoke.
Did you post this at F.A.?
Naw...I didn't think it was up to FA standards; just another one of my minor posts, blockquoting stuff that strikes my fancy, but which I don't have a lot of time to opinionate about.
Just got back from visiting the folks in Colorado, btw.
Mr Clinton conducted more RIFs and base closures than any other president in history.
At a time when this and other liberal presidents plan to use the military as littoral social engineering tools, this is a massive and fundamental mistake.
One of which our enemies cannot wait.

Meanwhile China's defense spending is increasing by 15%!
