"Kill 'em all......let Allah sort 'em out!"
Mark Mazzetti of the New York Times ($^%^@!) leaks to us today information from anonymous sources of a classified National Intelligence Estimate:
That's just peachy.
I don't question the veracity of the assessment at all. I'm just amazed at the bureaucratic leaks, and at the kinds of stories the NY Times, perhaps the leading U.S. newspaper, runs with during a time of war each day. This is the same newspaper that had a stake in Plamegate, that leaked 2 of 3 stories on NSA Surveillance programs; and it was the paper that ran 31 consecutive frontpage news stories on Abu Ghraib. I personally don't feel the war in Iraq in itself is what has fed and bred the Jihadists. It's our own obsessing over stories about Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib...it's our own shooting ourselves in the foot with language such as "Bush lied"..."racial profiling and discrimination against Muslims"......"there was no connection between Iraq and 9/11" (a liberal fantasy that President Bush ever said that in the way that they understand it)...."OCCUPATION of Iraq"...."it's an imperialistic war for oil".....the focus on civilian deaths of innocent Iraqis as the fault of our military and not that of the Jihadists and insurgents...everything plays right into the hands of the terror propagandists. Our mission in Iraq- to make us safer by planting the seeds of democracy in the Middle East and subsequently helping the Iraqis build a better future for their people- has been twisted to fuel the misperception of this war. The negative press falls right into the hands of our enemies.
Even though by most accounts, Al Qaeda is fractured and much of its senior leadership killed or captured, splinter cells and Jihadist wannabes are cropping up not because of the actions of the U.S. But because of the propaganda. The same kind that fuels the anti-American hate, that has no basis in truth. The same kind that will have Arabs believe 9/11 was orchestrated by Jews, and about a third of our own citizens buying into conspiracy theories that the Bush Administration "knocked down the Towers". Disgusting and stupid.
The Pope's speech gets twisted and interpreted in a way that fuels Muslim outrage. Who's responsible for the violent reaction? The Pope? Or the Islamists? Grow some thicker skin and grow up!
Removing Saddam was a good thing. But we weren't done. Helping the Iraqi people in the rebuilding was and still is, the noble, responsible thing to do.
One final word (I'd talk about what Ted Kennedy just said about the NIE report, but I've lost patience):
UPDATE 09/26/06: It would appear that President Bush plans to declassify portions of the NIE report to counter leakage of the CLASSIFIED report printed in the NY Times this past sunday.
UPDATE 09/27/06: Flopping Aces has two posts.

Mike's America is....well, Mike's America.
Islamic radicalism, rather than being in retreat, has metastasized and spread across the globe.Great.
An opening section of the report, “Indicators of the Spread of the Global Jihadist Movement,” cites the Iraq war as a reason for the diffusion of jihad ideology.
The report “says that the Iraq war has made the overall terrorism problem worse,” said one American intelligence official.
More than a dozen United States government officials and outside experts were interviewed for this article, and all spoke only on condition of anonymity because they were discussing a classified intelligence document.

I want to tell you before 9/11 innocent people used to die and nothing would happen but your death changed history forever.-Sooni's 9/11 post.If you are a bit perplexed by that statement, go read this Baghdad blogger's post for the context. Hat tip to Gayle.

There is no doubt that the Islamic Fascist spin about Iraq contributes to increasing radicalization of Islamic men.
But Iraq is not the only cause of radicalism and it's also true that even if we were NOT in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or the Middle East the radicals would find just as many excuses to spread their poison.
Osama bin Laden and his American mouthpiece Cindy Sheewitch have told us what the radicals demands are:
1. US out of the Middle East. Totally abandon Israel to it's fate
2. Stop "stealing" their oil by paying $60 a barrel.
3. Discard the U.S. Constitution and covert to Islam and Sharia Law.
(well the Sheewitch would probably not want to mention #3, but it's a central demand for "peace" Islamic-style)
The National Intelligence Estimate is being spun by the NY Treason and fellow travelers who find it easier to indulge their prejudice that the threat of terrorism is all due to our war to combat it.
The delusion this warped view presents is not only stupid but dangerous as it increases the disunity this nation needs to be effective in winning the war.
Great rant, Wordsmith! Especially enjoyed it after just having watched Bill "I-didn't-have-sex-with-that-woman" - Clinton lose his composure on national television. What a great Sunday! LOL!
Does anyone other than me think his nose is getting bigger? Honestly, it looks like it to me.
Thanks for the link. Blessings!
Hiya Word...The Pope's speech gets twisted and interpreted in a way that fuels Musllllllllllim outrage. ..Believe me they will latch on to anything to justify their unbridled rage and subsequent reactions..great post!
Well I wouldn't doubt that the situation in Iraq has made terrorism worse. For once someone is actually challenging radical Islam, and they are use to people backing down or running when they are challenged. That's why finishing the job in Iraq is so important, but the liberals in this country want us to do exactly want radical Islam wants.
I would add one thing to what you have said so well. That is it is not only the media that twists everything, seems that for nothing more than political gain, the left wingers are doing thier best to twist and destabilize our country when we need to be united the most.
They wonder why they keep losing elections.
Great rant Word! When will it ever get through to some people that these crazed fanatics of Islam want to kill us all?
We in the west need to stop our "Abused Spouse Syndrome" of forgiving and looking for excuses and "reasons" as to why they hit us, or why they hate us.
It's getting silly.
It upsets me how much Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib have been completely blown out of proportion. If you want to see torture watch "The Great Raid" and see what the Japanese did to our soldiers in World War II.
And as it is with most things they sometimes get worse before they get better. When you deal with problems sometimes everything hits the fan before it can be fixed.
little miss chatterbox - it's even worse than you think.
While there is much whining and beating of chests over our "deplorable" behavior and disregard of the Geneva conventions - the two soldiers who were just killed at my husband's base in Afghanistan were murdered by Taliban dressed up and impersonating Afghan militia.
Soooooo, they are allowed to violate any common decency and rules of war without any consequences, while we are expected to offer them tea and crumpets.
And if you think no one's bitter about that...

Funny how they underestimate Bush at every turn.
The leaks will start coming quite quickly now that we are in the final turn of the election cycle. This leak just being the first in a series I bet.
But now, just when they think they have Bush beat, he declassifies the very document they tried to misinterpret.
This is called underestimation.
If you want to see how tight our national security is these days go to this site. You'll find the classified report from the Abu Ghraib investigation.
Key:
(S) Preceeds material classified SECRET.
(S/NF) Preceeds material classified SECRET - NO FORIEGN NATIONALS.
(U) Preceeds material that is UNCLASSIFIED.
Someone with no morales or ethics and with access to the classified document was able to copy the document and get it out into the public domain.
I contacted Army Security and was told that once it hits the PD, they back away from it. I asked about DISA (Defense Investigative & Security Agency) going after the site and was told they wouldn't bother.
Therein lies a big part of our NYT and LAT leaks problems. The current mindset is damage control rather than investigating and procesuting the violators. Meanwhile the leaks go on and become more plentiful. Real partiots, these people - right!
I heard the details of this report over the weekend, and realized the points that were being raised fit neatly with the liberal appeasement argument for leaving Iraq.
Kind of like a Dan Rather special report...
