Secrets of the SandBergler: Why is this not a bigger issue?

So here's the update, as reported by the Archives inspector general yesterday:
[*snipped, trimmed, & slimfasted*] when Berger was confronted by Archives officials about the missing documents, he lied by saying he did not take them, the report said.

Brachfeld's report included an investigator's notes, taken during an interview with Berger. The notes dramatically described Berger's removal of documents during an Oct. 2, 2003, visit to the Archives.

Berger took a break to go outside without an escort while it was dark. He had taken four documents in his pockets.

"He headed toward a construction area. ... Mr. Berger looked up and down the street, up into the windows of the Archives and the DOJ (Department of Justice), and did not see anyone," the interview notes said.

He then slid the documents under a construction trailer, according to the inspector general. Berger acknowledged that he later retrieved the documents from the construction area and returned with them to his office.

"He was aware of the risk he was taking," the inspector general's notes said. Berger then returned to the Archives building without fearing the documents would slip out of his pockets or that staff would notice that his pockets were bulging.

The notes said Berger had not been aware that Archives staff had been tracking the documents he was provided because of earlier suspicions from previous visits that he was removing materials. Also, the employees had made copies of some documents.

In October 2003, the report said, an Archives official called Berger to discuss missing documents from his visit two days earlier. The investigator's notes said, "Mr. Berger panicked because he realized he was caught."

The notes said that Berger had "destroyed, cut into small pieces, three of the four documents. These were put in the trash."

What was Sandy Berger's motive in stealing and destroying these documents? What was so important in them, that he felt the need to become a burglar of national records? I feel like he's gotten away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist; by stealing and shredding classified documents from the National Archives, he's basically rewritten history. And without so much as an explanation given.

I just saw this somewhere and I HAD to write Bill O'Reilly and Hannity about this!

Let's see what happens.

You know the first time I heard about this just before the the 2004 Presidential election, I wrote my Senator Jim Inhoffe, and I was shocked he wrote me back personaly and said to me: "Isnt it strange to you that right after the "Theft" that John Kerry gave a foreign policy speech the very next day"?

So there is ALOT more to this story than ANYONE knows!!

If Wordsmith or Old Soldier admitted to stealing classified documents from the national archives you can bet we would get a lot more than a $50,000 fine and 100 hours of community service. We'd be lucky to see the bottom of the jail cell when looking up!

It's not a bigger issue for the same reason that anything associated with Clinton isn't. If it is proven as the Burglar situation can be that anything involving the Clinton administartion was corrupt then the revisionists, Clinton apologists, and the legacy builders who have no foundation to build upon other than Monica will have to admit the his was a failed Presidency and the MSM who still see him as a, "Rock Star, " will have to show the true tarnish on the false image they have helped to create. Plus it brings the Hildabeast into the mix and libs and the MSM can't have her tarnished before her Presidential run.

On a different note to follow up on a question you asked at my site in case you don't get back there, The Nativity Story is excellent. I went to see it last week and it is well worth seeing. Follows the biblical account very closely and is a well done movie that you will definatly enjoy.

Spot on Jenn!

Could Berger have been putting his career on the line to conceal what the Clinton Administration knew about Able Danger? It wouldn't be the first time someone faced sentencing to protect the Clinton's....

It's the old double-standard that used to only be glaringly obvious between men and women who are sexually promiscuous - two entirely different different reactions: "he's just feeling his wild oats" or "she's a slut!" Now we have the same thing between liberals and conservatives. If a Republican were caught doing this we know he/she would be forced to resign and would do some jail time to boot. This double standard/hypocrisy should not be allowed to continue. Berger deserves a far greater punishment than a $50,000 fine and community service!

Gayle's "wild oats vs slut" comparison pretty well sums it up.

It seems like the MSM is actually running the country these days, not the government, since they get no argument from any of the apparently cowed Republicans on the Hill about any of their spin, revision or failure to cover any events whose revelation might be inconvenient to the left.

I agree with Seth (a man of wisdom):

Republicans are acting like they're whipped. Maybe they are.

He's a Clinton crony, therefore nothing he does is really wrong or illegal. It's the old, "he's not a bully, he's just misunderstood." Well, the Democratic bully is beating the crap out of the Republicans and they just keep turning the other cheek!

We know more about Mark Foley's emails than we do about these documents and why they were so important to Sandy Burglar.

What does that tell us about the perspective of the "news" media.

Of course had Condi Rice done this, the coverage would be 24/7.

Imagine if someone saw Berger doing this and took the documents?

Mike's America makes a great point. We have so many details on Mark Foley's e-mails and IMs; yet when it comes to the Sandy Berger-meister Meister-Berger affair, we know so little.

Why isn't Brian Ross putting the same energy into investigating Berger as he put into the Foley story?

How incredibly reckless for Berger to hide classified documents at a construction site!

And the libs call Bush stupid.

I totally agree with you on this. It makes me so mad how most Clintonistas and liberals in general seem to get away with murder.

I get all new Glenn McCoy cartoons via email and I just saw that one that you have at the top.
