Trying to Make Sense of Psycho Cho

The person "Cho" is the face of mental illness and the never ending battle of denial and cover up. No one wants to admit that their child or a family member is mentally ill and they will go to great lengths to force themselves into denial. I'm not laying blame on Cho's family I know the extreme pain of having someone in your family that suffers from mental illness.

Mental health proffesionals have a huge responsibilty of determining someone's ability to function in society when that person is introduced to the mental system for one reason or another. Some only need minimum supresvision and others are deemed a danger to themselves and others such as Cho was. It was the responsibilty of that professional to get Cho's name on the "excluded to own a firearm list". I could go on in greater detail because it was just a year ago that I was dealing with a mentally ill family member and I was completely overwhelmed. I sought help from my State Human and Mental Health Services and they did help me find a way to deal with the situation.

Having said that though it was up to me to make sure that my family member had no access to my firearms or any other fireams because of the sometimes violent behavior. I understood my responsibility clearly because of my training in firearms safety and I myself am a certified firearms saftey instructor.

It's a shame and bordering on criminal that all those young people had to die in order for the mental health professionals in Virginia to learn the devastating results of the mentally ill aquiring firearms.

I have heard a few commentators say that if this mentally ill person didn't buy a firearm at a legal firearms store he would have gotten one illegally. I find that pure BS and unsupportable speculation because Virginia Tech iu located out in the country and no one is going to sell a firearm to a student from the college illegally. Maybe Cho would have been able to obatin one illegally if he were in one of the major Universities in one of big cities but not VA Tech. I wish people would engage their brains before they open their mouths when they speak about a subject they have little or no knowledge about.

I hope I didn't put everyone to sleep but I had to get that out. Thanks for your patience Word.

That cartoon is exactly correct, Wordsmith. It goes perfectly with a post I posted late last night and of course I'm going to snag it and attach it to the bottom of that post. Everyone can analyze till the cows come home but they aren't going to come up with any other conclusion than that he was indeed crazy.

A nut is a nut and Cho was deranged and should have been institutionalized long ago when in Dec 2005 the court deemed he was a danger to himself and others.

It won't be long though that liberals who see that no one has any personal responsibility in anything will create the idea that he was a victim of society and everyone should feel sorry fro this deranged lunatic and murderer!

jennifer,

Thanks for sharing your story. I had a girlfriend who is bipolar, and it was one of the most challenging periods in my life. It drained me spiritually and emotionally.
