Olympic Fever?

Aug. 2: Women exercise at a gym in Herat, Afghanistan. Afghan women are beginning to use private gyms and sports clubs after years of being cloistered in their homes under Taliban rule. Still a highly segregated society, there are few socially acceptable public places for women outside of schools or universities, and even fewer facilities for sports.

Well, that's an image I could have done without! At least the Iraqis were allowed to attend after all. I saw Pres Bush and Laura stand and clap for them as they entered the arena during the opening ceremony tonight.

Those Afghan ladies must do a lot of laundry. If my gym clothes are saturated with sweat, I can imagine what theirs are like!
