They Are the Change They've Been Waiting For

What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

This is the price and the promise of citizenship.
-Excerpt from Obama's inaugural speech

Yup.....a new era of responsible citizenship has begun....

Is this the big change and "hope" we've all been waiting for?...."just words"

Dumpster diving into the past for some positive plagiarism- in a good way.

And the era of divisiveness has ended:

Some of Mr. Obama’s supporters booed and taunted Mr. Bush when he emerged from the Capitol to take his place on stage, at one point singing, “Nah, nah, nah, nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye.” By day’s end, Mr. Bush had landed in Texas, where he defended his presidency and declared that he was “coming home with my head held high.”

Seems the Obamabots failed to get that memo on civility and "coming together" (White House website failed on that as well):

Protesters throw shoes at the White House during a demonstration in Washington. Mike Segar-Reuters

This, however, is a good gesture:

Mr Obama signed an order freezing the salaries of senior White House staff.

As much as I support Bush, I think my favorite part of him being re-elected is the heart burn it has given the libs.

Talk about a double whammy! First he freezes their pay, and then he will increase their taxes. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. Do you suppose they are still glad they voted for him?

Has anyone calculated how much NObama is going to cost us in his retirement after 4 years? Try $197,000 times probably 40 years, plus all the other perks he'll get. McCain would have saved us a bundle!

AA is right on. First freeze the salaries of the staff, then raise their taxes. Now he's going to hire 8000 new White House staff to enjoy the low salary/high tax lifestyle. Yep, He's a dandy.

Seeing that first photo, I am absolutely convinced the 40,000 securty personel in DC weren't there to protect Obama, but to prevent the Liberal Democrat horde from trashing the Capital.

Word, trashing the Capitol could very wel be a sign of things to come as Obama trashes the government.

You do realize that this freeze is hypocrisy at it's best. The salaries he has frozen are for those he has JUST HIRED. The possibility of any of them getting any type of salary increase in the near or not so near future is nill.

ken,

Largely symbolic. He could help cut back on wasteful spending by reducing the number of government jobs- not increase them; both he and Bush could have cut back on the number of presidential aides.

I believe Lincoln, back in the day, only had 2; FDR had less than 200, I think and had a massive war to run.

Wordsmith, I think you may need to make these people pass an IQ test before they can proceed to the comments page. This may eliminate some people. Not talking about anyone in particualr, just your everyday, anonymous poster.

Chuck,

It's the first comment I've ever considered deleting. It's not exactly a death threat, but comes damn close.

So, you placed a ban on yourself?

If you aren't an Obama supporter, who'd you vote for in the last election?

If you went third party, then I'm roflmao. Congratulations for being irrelevant.
