The Politicization of 9/11

A couple of weeks ago, in the Wall Street Journal opinion-editorial, Debra Burlingame, who is the sister of Flight 77 (the flight that crashed into the Pentagon) pilot, Charles Burlingame, wrote an article describing how the International Freedom Center isn't just planning a 9/11 Memorial on Ground Zero that honor American citizens who lost their lives on that Tuesday morning. No....they are planning on building a memorial that will include history and propaganda that have nothing to do with 9/11! Apparently it is backed by a "who's who" of the navel-gazing, hand-wringing, self-loathing, self-hating, "blame America first" crowd. The Memorial will lecture us on American genocide, slavery, and civil rights "abuses" post-9/11, including Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and the Patriot Act. Read Michelle Malkin's piece, and this one from The New York Post.

They want to use 9/11 as a platform to talk about human rights abuses?! I say, the IFC backers should be taken out to the woodshed, drawn and quartererd.....then lynch 'em! (in case this last paragraph should be "abused" as an example of the "vitriol" coming from the right-wing noise machine, please note that I kid.....mostly).

I heard that too, but hadn't followed up on it well enough to post a comment on my blog. I think it is deplorable, to say the least, that the PC crowd would dishonor the victims of 9/11 in that way. Is there anything we, as individuals, can do to stop this obscenity?

You could write a respectful letter here:

International Freedom Center
120 Broadway, 31st Floor
New York, NY 10271

Fax
(212) 336-6727

E-mail
contact@ifcwtc.org

I doubt it'll do much good, although it's nice to flood their inbox and mailbox, as I'm sure they are already inundated with letters of disapproval.

Beyond this, I don't know what else is to be done. I think we'll hear more noise about this in coming weeks. Maybe there'll be an answer then.

According to Brian Kilmeade from "FOX and Friends", Richard Tofel, the Center's president, was a complete ass to Debra Burlingame, the wife of the Flight 77 pilot, backstage. He leaned into her and said, "Nice try." and was intimidating her. Brian described him as behaving like a disrespectful intruder at someone's wake. You'd think that someone who represents such an "esteemed" Center for Freedom would have the class to show this 9/11 widow some respect. He doesn't have to agree with her position, but since she knows 9/11 so intimately with her personal loss, she deserves to have her voice heard and her input respectfully taken into account when taking on the responsibility of building a Memorial supposedly for the benefit of all Americans.
