I think it would be very appropriate instead of having a swearing in ceremony to have a swearing AT ceremony instead since this Congress will obviously insight that type of response as the year progresses. Send a chill down the spine!
"God help us all" is exactly right! Many things that are going on in our country are beyond shameful; it's evil rearing it's ugly head and being accepted. If America doesn't wake up it's going to be the end of us.
Democratic leaders need to get thei heads out of sand and begin to understand that their are real threats, based on an ideology, not based on America's actions. These threats will not cease if America leaves the Middle East, they will only grow graver, larger and more dangerous.
hehe
Word on the street is that they're going to rewrite the Constitution.
I'm just sayin'
Ok...this is a "cute" little stunt.
If this is how he wants to do the ceremonial swearing in, so be it. It's his legal right. But I still think Dennis Prager makes a valid case for what the Bible represents in a ceremonial swearing in; to me it is not a religious test. For me, it represents honoring history and tradition.
Well now this opens up a new set of questions.
I never knew Thomas Jefferson HAD a Quran, and what on earth was he doing with it?
I still dont like this whole thing.
They are infiltrating our government, and inconspicuous areas where they think no one else notices. But I do!
So when Mohhamud (Allah be with him) decides he is coming back which (They think is soon) Those who have infiltrated will already be in place for the big (You're turning Muslim or else) Takeover!
God help us indeed!!!!!
I can't read the title on those books they are holding. I know one is the Bible and one is Gore's "inconvienient truth" But what are the other two?
I think any politician swearing on a Bible or any other religious book is a sacrilege if they don't personally follow the teachings of said books.
That would cover the majority of politicians including Republicans.
Otherwise, they are being hypocritical.
Incidently, The Bible cautions us against making oaths on anything. It says let your answers be yes or no, only. Ones own word should be sufficient, and if it isn't, they have no business taking office anyway.
Curt also blogged the Keith Ellison swearing in on the Jefferson Koran.

Mark,
I have a different take on the matter. The swearing in is ceremonial; so it works for me, to see Dennis Prager's view that swearing in on the Bible is not a religious test, but one of honoring the traditions that founded this country.
If I went along with your perspective, I'd then align myself with those who believe Ellison should use the Koran; after all, that is the book of his faith. And religious freedom is American.
Here we go.
Hold on...
