So....what's wrong with nationalism?

Especially when it's very much needed.

Iraqi children in Baghdad revel in the nation's soccer victory, July 25. The successful run in the Asian Cup has been a cause of much joy in this wartorn country, with Iraqis saying the mixed makeup of the team showed the country's rival ethnic and religious factions can unite.- Ali Yussef, AFP/Getty Images, via Washington Post

Like the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team victory over the favored Soviet Union, an injection of national pride.

Congrats to the team and Iraq. This agains just shows that the country is much more stable than the libs and the MSM are portraying.

I've alwasy wondered though when shots are fired in the air how many have to dodge them on the way back down!

There were about 7 deaths from dropping bullets.

I wonder how long it will be before the MSM blame the US Military and President Bush?

I think this is a great victory, it brought all the Iraqi's together as one, and I truly believe we are going to be seeing a dramitic change in Iraq.

Ever since the Soldiers captured that high up al-qaeda guy (Forget his name) and all the information he has been giving the Coalition, and one comment was particularly interesting, the character al-qaeda has been fooling the Iraqi's into thinking they were following named something or another "Baghdaddi" turned out to be a FICTITIOUS!!!

The Iraqi's found out that this fool they were folowing wasnt even real, got mad for once, and now they have thrown in with the Coalition forces and are turning in al-qaeda left and right.

But you dont hear that on the MSM.

It's so rare to hear good news from over there, Wordsmith. Thank you for posting this!

I don't understand why they shoot straight up in the air either. Surely they understand that what goes up must come down, at least I hope so! It's very weird.

Aren't you glad its not the same ol' Shia-bomb-Sunnis-Sunnis-revenge-bomb-Shia stuff the MSM revels in all day?

Here's some other positives, coming from the NYTimes by two liberals. I caught it this morning at Oxford Medievalist, but didn't have time to blog it. Other bloggers have picked up on it, as well.

The nationalism Progressives have a problem with is American nationalism. Mexican nationalism as they illegaly invade the country, no problem. Arab nationalism, strange ficticious beast that has never existed, no problem either. A strong nationalist Russia, except when extorting Estonia, no problem.

As for the Iraqi team: GOAL!!!!!

I'm going to put this into another quick take:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/29/weekinreview/29elder.html?ei=5090&en=b4bf259b63ec98e6&ex=1343361600&adxnnl=1&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&adxnnlx=1185809690-bfGMeohUzNq88SnO4yCKRw

It seems the NY Times took a poll on Iraq which showed an uptick in support among the American people. That wasn't the answer that fit their notion of what people are SUPPOSED to think after reading the paper so they took the poll again. Same result.

You probably also heard the interview Hugh Hewit had with the NYTimes guy in Baghdad. Not exactly what the left has been saying.

It's amazing to me that the NYT's published it at all. I think it's really sad that when they publish outright lies, or hide an important story in the back of the newspaper, none of us are surprised, but when they tell the truth we're shocked. At least I was! That doesn't say much for the NYT's, does it? And why did they publish it? Do you suppose they've lost so much circulation that they are trying to regain their lost credibility? If so, then it's about time!

I can't imagine they have gotten the message that their liberalism is so out of touch that they need to tone it down. They're such egotistical left wing twits.

But even they can see the writing on the wall.
