Wordsmith: thanks for the link, sir! Come 2008, I wonder what the status of ACTUAL free speech may possibly be.

Word, I just removed my comment that was more about hate crime legislation because it was probably misplaced under this post.
We both know flushing a copy of the Koran down the tiolet that is protected by free speech just as putting a Cross in a jar of urine is protected. If it's your toilet and your copy of the Koran then by all means flush away. Personally, due to practical concerns and this is just for me, I'm not flushing anything down my toilet that my septic tank can't digest. I'm pretty much limited to either just thinking it or talking about it.
zeppelin,
Thanks for posting that photo!
jennifer,
The original comment was fine.
I'm not a fan of "hate crime" laws; just laws against crime, period. We shouldn't be criminalizing thoughts, but conduct.
Personally, I wouldn't desecrate a Koran any more than I would a Christian Bible. But, as you say,
If it's your toilet and your copy of the Koran then by all means flush away.
I would frown upon it, and not encourage that sort of behavior. But I wouldn't criminalize the behavior, let alone call for a fatwa death sentence for the offender.
People just need to grow thicker skin. If it offends God/Allah, He's a big enough Boy to take care of Himself and deal with the offender, accordingly.
