I wanted to share with you what we saw in Washington DC last week. We toured the Mall and made the usual stops at the WWII Memorial, the Wall, Lincoln Memorial, etc.
At the Vietnam Wall we saw something unbelievable. We noticed three small index cards at the base of the Wall.
I knelt down for a closer look and noticed that a 4-star general's rank was pinned to each card.
The cards were personally addressed and said something like:
These are Yours - not mine!
With Love and Respect,
Your Platoon Leader,
Pete Pace

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs had laid down his rank for his boys who died in Nam.
Oct 1 was the day he stepped down as Chairman.

He is indeed a hero, Wordsmith. Thanks for posting this! I doubt if the MSM is going to pick it up.
Gen Pace is indeed an incredible man and we were fortunate to have him as chairman of the joint chiefs.
I think he'd be a great US senator, and there'll be a job opening where he lives in '08.
I speak of the retirement of John Warner, R-VA. Right now ex-Gov Dem Mark Warner is the most likely Dem candidate, and he will be a formidable opponent.
The two Repubs who will likely fight it out to challenge him are Rep Tom Davis and ex-gov Jim Gillmore. I don't particularly care for either and don't think they could win.
But Pace could. And I like him a lot. I hope someone in influence approaches him about it.
What an amazing act of honor and humility. Exactly what I would expect from such an incredible hero! It is so sad he was treated the way he was by the weenies on the left.
