Helen vs. Hugh: Round One

Oh....my...God! I was laughing so much in my car yesterday. I had to go into work at 4:30 pm, but hung in the car for as long as I could, as 2nd hour, Hugh Hewitt had an interview with the venerable old fossil, Helen Thomas. You could call it the comedy hour (the first hour with Lawrence O'Donnell could be characterized as much the same, too). I wrote Generalissimo last night, begging for an audio, and *presto*: It's up at Radioblogger, along with transcript. Sometimes wishes do come true! A must listen. Go listen now, and report back here!

This interchange between Hugh and Helen is a good peek into the mind of not only an irrelevant old relic of a bygone journalistic era, but also of a moonbat journalistic elite, who fails to understand the nature of partisan journalism as it applies in the 21st century, where media bias is more clearly evident in contrast to the conservative outlets of blogs and talk radio.

More on Lawrence O'Donnell from Hugh: Here and here. Don't forget to listen to the O'Donnell interview at Radioblogger, either. It's funny when he tells Hugh "I don't know why you are so outraged..." when throughout the interview, Lawrence is seething with unhinged rancor; I could even feel his spittle flying from my car speakers. Contrast it to Hugh's tone which was very calm and collected. (Picture of Helen is just for you, Gayle!).

Some choice bits:

"HT: Because in journalism, you're supposed to play the story straight, whatever the facts are, and we're doing that."

"HT: I...I worked for United Press International for more than fifty years, and I wrote straight copy. I was never, never accused of bias."

"HT: No, but you're bias has come through. You're not asking legitimate questions. "

"HT: And I don't think it's your business who I voted for.

HH: All right.

HT: And I don't think you have the right to ask anybody that question."

"HH: Why don't you like George Bush?

HT: I don't like people who want a war.

HH: And you just think he really just decided to go to war...and is Iraq better off today than it was four years ago?

HT: No. Watch...I want you to read...I want you to look at these pictures of these detainees and prisoners of war. And you will really be so disturbed. Why don't you..."

"HT: I'm so sorry that you don't care about people who've been slained, thousands and thousands. I mean, worry about them."

The woman is a complete loon. She borders on insanity. Why she gets a White House Press Pass is beyond me.

My God that woman is horrid. I hope Cheney announces he will run for president and put her out of her misery. (and us)

You must listen to the audio!!! Transcripts don't do it justice! Priceless and classic, is all I have to describe it.

It must be a "journalistic" epidemic. Mike Wallace has gone around the bend (just ask his son, Chris!) and David Gregory is on his way, too.

We are seeing a metamorphasis...
journalist to moonbat

Thanks a lot, Wordsmith! I not only get to look at this hideous picture, plus the pictures posted by Radioblooger, I get to hear her beautiful voice! Yech! It's a wonder he didn't hang up on her... he certainly has a lot more patience than I do. :)

After hearing the audio I did'nt know if I should laugh or be mad. Another attempt by a member of the media to say it's ok for us to report lies if the person we are lying against is someone we don't like.......crazy...but not surprising

Bizarre... That woman is so bizarre. The amazing thing is that she is in the ideological mainstream as far as the media is concerned. I'd hate to see who they think is on the lunatic fringe on the left!

Did you catch the condescension in her voice when she began questioning Hugh Hewitt? Also, when she mentions that she was never accused of bias, there's a reason! Back then, the media only presented one side of the story. People couldn't have identified any bias because they had nothing else to compare it to.

Great post WS!

Okay, Wordsmith, I'll click on the link you left in your last comment, but I don't know why I want to do that. It seems sort of masochistic to me! I'll get back here and let you know what I think. :)

Okey dokey, I went over there: Here is one of her comments: "THOMAS: You have no right to give these people whatever. They are a sovereign nation, you invaded them without any cause, they did nothing to us."

Quote: "You have no right to give these people whatever." !!!? That one statement proves uniquivocably that she is insane. We have no right to give them freedom from tyranny; we have no right to help them install a democracy; we have no right to help them rebuild their country. We have no right to help free the women. We have no right to help their children, especially girls, get an education. I could go on, but I don't think it's necessary. I'd like to interview this moron. He was way too nice to her!
