My Favorite Excerpt from the Gonzales NSA Wiretap Hearings
GONZALES: Senator, you raised a very important point. People focus on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and say, “This is what the words say and that’s the end of it; if you’re not following it in total, you’re obviously in violation of the law.”
That is only the beginning of the analysis. You have to look to see what Congress has done subsequent to that. And then, of course, you have to look at the Constitution.
There have been many statements today about “No one is above the law.” And I would simply remind — and I know this doesn’t need to be stated — but no one is above the Constitution either, not even the Congress.

Woo-hoo!! You go Gonzales. That is a great line.
My dream is for whoever is being tortured by whatever Democrat Senator to stand up and blast them for their hypocrisy, pointing out all the unlawful things they have done and all the bribes they have accepted, and all the secrets they have revealed to the enemy and all the lies they have told in their efforts to smear the Bush administration and all the times they have leaked classified information to the press.
Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
I can't believe how calm he stayed while being called "a liar and working for a liar".
Ha! I really love Mark's comment here! Absolutely love it!
Anna, he stayed calm because he is a true Statesman. Not many of them left in politics these days. Kudos to him, but I, like Mark, would love to see one Republican to really give the bullying Democrat "what for!" :)
Gonzales's comment was a thinly veiled reference to the leak of the story about the NSA wiretaps (in my humble opinion). He was reminding everyone present that when/if the identity of said leaker is discovered, action will be taken.
Dear God let us find out who it was!
I believe the most likely suspect is Rockefeller.
It's not surprising it was leaked. The Senate is the most leak-happy place on Earth, isn't it?
Whenever I see Gonzales, I just can't get over the short little Hispanic man talking like a redneck! Okay, I'm twisted.
Wordsmith, I agree...if it's anyone on the "intelligence" committee (oxymoron) it would be Rockefeller.
